Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's works involve telepresence and projections of light/shadows/imagery. his latest one called "Amodal Suspension - relational architecture 8" seems to be a sequel to "Vectorial Elevation". this new one converts text messages (via cell phones or web) to flashes and motion of robotically-controlled spotlights. it opens tomorrow in Japan to mark the opening of the YCAM arts center. you can go to amodal.net to participate. i usually try to be a positive blogger but i couldn't resist not spreading the expose on this one. this dolphin massacre was caught on tape. "The tape, shot by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, graphically captures the end of a hunt, in which fishermen pound on the water, causing waves that confuse the mammals' sense of direction, and then corral dolphins into small coves where they can be more easily killed with sickles." Stimulation Systems' Slightest Touch is an orgasmatron that makes a woman "desire sex" on the spot. is it for real? maybe the Sexual Reflexology book might shed some light.

a growing sunspot on the sun let lose a cloud of particles called (love the name) coronal mass ejection that is heading our way. this means we could get a geomagnetic storm on friday that may affect activities with our satellites; cell phones and electric grids may be affected. northern areas may even see a glowing auroral ring or waves and ripples like what happened during last year's solar storm. sex changing fish   permalink

it is now known that all sex changing fish change genders at around 72 percent of their maximum body size. there is a possibility that hormones found in Florida and UK waters are responsible for masculinizing female fish (called protogyny) and feminizing male fish (called protandry). successive hermaphrodites live in coral reefs and include black sea bass, sheepheads, groupers, wrasses, parrotfish, clownfish, coral trout, red throat emperor, and some gobies.

the octopus's eyes have joined the ever growing list of biomimetics. ny times reports on research being done by a U of Buffalo professor on a silicon chip called the o-retina chip for electronic vision systems. the octopus has simple and very effective eyes that are suitable for robot vision because it sees horizontally and vertically. it also uses brightness, size, orientation, and shape to distinguish objects. most importantly, it has the ability to see polarized light.
