Pattern Language: Clothing as Communicator is an upcoming exhibition that has some classic pieces of concept clothing, including the Stock Market Skirt, by Nancy Paterson, that illustrates the Desmond Morris theory: when the economy/stock market is up, hemlines go up. when the stock market goes down, hemlines go down. check out the video of the hemline and more pictures. Rebecca Niederlander's latest piece is like a life force contained in a hovering upside-down bubbly landscape. the mirrors below reflect the inner-workings which include water movements that, when seen with the animating lights inside, portray a womb-like intelligence. it's one of the best uses of LEDs in art that i've seen yet. definitely more refreshing than LED matrices that is more common.

the projection pattern i created today for the Vectoral Elevation installation has happen at 18:50 Dublin time. here's my page with (faint) pictures of it. it's an installation, by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, that uses 22 robotic searchlights taking instructions for patterns submitted by anyone on the internet that refresh every 15 seconds. submit yours now to see it later on the webcam. it will be up and running until may 3. Swarovski is officially hip, and crystal chandeliers are not just your grandma's lighting anymore. well, they've been hip....for the past few years, they've been commissioning the coolest designers in fashion and furniture. but this year, they really did it with Ron Arad's interactive chandelier where anyone can send a message via their cell phone and see it trickle down the spiraling crystal ribbon. see some videos of it from the Milan Furniture Fair, where it was revealed. i just took the "What kind of industrial solvent are you?" quiz and i am:

NC-300:
You are a water soluble, heavy duty detergent designed for industrial cleaning. You may be used effectively on metals, plastics, rubber or concrete, and can be diluted with up to eighty parts water. You emulsify and hold oily soil in suspension for rinsing or wiping. [via] April 19, 2004

this proposed 40-story carbon double-helix tower would be the lightest and strongest building of its type. this is a project by Peter Testa and Devyn Weiser of the Emergent Design Group at MIT merging architecture, artificial intelligence, and material science. some of their tools include GERMZ : Genetically Recombinant Modeler, MoSS: Morphogenic Surface Structures, and GENR8: Generative Form Modeling.

frogs and salamanders can regrow limbs and so should we. check out this video. DARPA is spearheading a research project named ReGenesis to try to achieve this to help those from the military who have lost a leg or arm re-entering civilian life. LA Times wrote a really entertaining story that weaves in a bit of history of limb regeneration research so far. looks like in just 10 years, we will have a pill for growing a body part. astronomers in Chile have captured the best images yet of Titan, the second largest moon of the solar system. this constructed image (i think) shows its thick and hazy atmosphere of nitrogen, methane and oily hydrocarbons; and possible oceans of methane or ethane beneath its clouds. how cool would it be to see saturn in the atmosphere like that?

for 500 to 1,000 euros and in just 15 minutes, you can get a "jewel" implanted in your eyeball; to be exact, in the conjunctiva (the mucous membrane lining the inner surface of the eyelids). it's so popular already that there's a waiting list. it's made out of platinum and available in the shape of a heart, half moon, a star or circle.
